Piano Lab
- Piano Lab strives to teach students to read, analyze, and play written music notation.
- Each student is provided with an 88-key keyboard equipped with touch sensitivity, sustain pedal, and individual headphones to be used at school. Each student is able to work at their own pace with specific direction from Mrs. Benson.
- Students will receive group instruction at the beginning of class, but work individually on each skill or concept from the instruction.
- Students will complete both performance grades based on accuracy of play, as well as written theory assignments, based on accuracy of tested information.

“Through out my life music has been an integral piece of it! In my home most days you can hear someone singing or a musical playing on the TV or someone playing music on their phone, etc. I have always enjoyed music but I first began appreciating the instrumental parts of music when I began playing piano in the piano lab. The piano lab is both a place of excitement and tranquility to me! Some days it was a solace from the world where my headphones would block out the world and people around me and I could focus on the astonishing musical composition I was capable of! Other days it was an exciting experience, of finally finishing a song I had been working on for weeks or listening to a first year piano student finish their first song and celebrating with them! In the piano lab I experienced many emotions: excitement, boredom, frustration, peace but when I look back at these memories the emotion I feel the most is joy! The joy I got when I was able to show my parents the music I could create or when I started to play songs that I knew from movies on the piano or when someone could guess the name of the music from the notes I was playing! The piano lab has and will always have a place in my heart for both the amazing music I was taught to play and the amusing people who I met in the lab!”
